Cimetidine, also known as Methylene guanidine, is a H2 receptor blocker commonly used in primary clinical practice. It has preventive and protective effects against corrosive gastritis caused by chemical stimulation, and stress gastric ulcer and upper digestion. The bleeding also has obvious curative effect and is therefore widely used in clinical practice.
In recent years, studies have found that in addition to the above effects, cimetidine has many new uses, which are described below:
1. Treatment of bronchial asthma
Methods: Salbutamol aerosol inhalation, aminophylline, glucocorticoids, cimetidine routine treatment, seven days for a course of treatment.
2. Treatment of bacterial dysentery
Because cimetidine can compete against the acid secretion of histamine, pentagastrin and acetylcholine, protect the gastrointestinal mucosa, inhibit bleeding, inhibit the release of prostaglandins, reduce gastrointestinal motility, reduce secretion, increase water and electrolytes. The absorption is beneficial to the recovery of gastrointestinal function and promote the repair of damaged intestinal epithelial cells, so it can be used clinically to treat bacterial dysentery and a large amount of pus and bloody stools.
METHODS: On the basis of conventional treatment of primary disease, intravenous administration of cimetidine injection was given daily at 20 mg/kg in 1-2 times for 3 days.
3. Treatment of ulcerative colitis
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic colonic inflammation with unknown etiology. It is one of the refractory diseases. Some patients have used cimetidine injection to retain enema to treat ulcerative colitis. The effect is remarkable.
Methods: cimetidine injection 0.4g, warm saline 100ml, retention enema, once a night, 15 days for a course of treatment.
4. Treatment of hemoptysis
Cimetidine can antagonize the vasodilating action of histamine and thus help stop bleeding. Some people used dexamethasone combined with cimetidine to treat massive hemoptysis of tuberculosis with satisfactory results.
Methods: On the basis of routine treatment with dexamethasone, oral cimetidine was given 200 mg/time, once every 8 hours, and 3 days was a course of treatment.
RESULTS: Recurrent hemoptysis was stopped after the administration of cimetidine.
5. Treatment of mumps
Because cimetidine has antiviral effect, it can significantly increase the conversion rate of T lymphocytes and enhance the immune function of the body; chlorpheniramine is an H1 receptor blocker, which can inhibit the swelling of the parotid gland caused by histamine. Better.
Methods: Cimetidine daily 20mg/kg, chlorpheniramine 4-8mg daily, divided into 2 to 3 times orally.
6. Treatment of hepatitis B
Hepatitis B HBeAg-positive patients, cimetidine can be used daily 0.8g, combined with hormone or adenine, effective for antigen conversion.
7. Treatment of psoriasis
Cimetidine can effectively antagonize H2 receptors, reduce and eliminate the immunosuppressive effects of histamine, and improve cellular immune function.
Methods: cimetidine 0.3g was taken orally twice a day, 6-8 weeks later, reduced to 0.2g orally, 2 times / day, followed by 4 weeks; mineral bath for 15 minutes, 1 time / day, even 24 times.
8. Treatment of skin itching
Cimetidine in the treatment of patients with generalized pruritus, generally taking 2-3 days to take effect.
Methods: Cimetidine 0.2g orally, 3 times / day, and even served for 1-2 weeks. The use of cimetidine is still effective in patients who are not responding to other anti-allergic drugs.
9. Treatment of seborrheic alopecia
Method: 0.2 g orally, 3 times/day, for 5 weeks.
10. Treatment of herpes zoster
Herpes zoster is an acute herpetic skin disease caused by a virus, often manifested as local intercostal neuralgia, which is unbearable. The treatment with cimetidine is satisfactory.
Method 1: cimetidine 0.2g orally, 2 times / day, and even served for 5 days
Method 2: Cimetidine 0.2g orally every time, 3 times / day, plus 0.2g before going to bed, effective 24 hours after administration, 7 days for a course of treatment.
11. Treatment of oral ulcers
Cimetidine is a histamine and receptor antagonist that inhibits histamine secretion and reduces stimulation of nerve endings. Treatment of oral ulcers with external application of cimetidine significantly shortened the analgesic time.
Method: The cimetidine tablets were pulverized into the end and applied to the ulcer at 3 times/day. After the application, the food was fasted for 10 minutes.
12. Treatment of chickenpox
Cimetidine is the treatment of choice for the treatment of chickenpox.
Methods: Oral cimetidine 15mg / (kg * d), divided into 3 times, continuous medication until the symptoms disappeared.
13. Treatment of flat warts
Methods: cimetidine 0.4g orally, 3 times / d, 10 days for a course of treatment, and then discontinued observation, 10 days after the ineffective, plus one course of treatment.
14. Treatment of urticaria
Methods: cimetidine 0.4g orally, 3 times / d, chlorpheniramine 4mg orally, once / d, after 7 days of continuous use, effective for another 28 days.
15. Treatment of acne vulgaris
Acne is caused by a blockage of the sebaceous glands and the pores of the hair follicles, resulting in chronic inflammation of the sebum and a multifactorial skin disease associated with increased androgen. Some people use cimetidine to treat acne, and the effect is remarkable.
Method 1: 2% cimetidine solution, external hemorrhoids, 2 times a day.
Method 2: cimetidine 0.2 orally, 3 times / day, for four weeks.
16. Treatment of acne
Method 1: After disinfecting the wound, apply 2% cimetidine aqueous solution twice a day, and stop the formation after molting.
Method 2: After routine disinfection, the wound was sprayed with cimetidine solution (0.2 g/ml), and the cimetidine cotton ball was used to fill the cavity.
17. Treatment of acute gastroenteritis
Acute gastroenteritis is mainly caused by infections such as viruses and bacteria. Shi Jianzhong used cimetidine combined with levofloxacin to treat acute gastroenteritis with remarkable curative effect.
Methods: On the basis of conventional treatment, 0.4 g of cimetidine injection was added to 5% glucose injection, 2 times/day, 0.2 g of levofloxacin injection was added to 5% glucose injection, 2 drops. Times/day, for 4 days.
18. Treatment of viral enteritis
Cimetidine is an immunomodulator that enhances the immune response and enhances the virus by antihistamine, immunomodulation, and inhibition of prostaglandin release. At the same time, cimetidine can block H2 receptors, reduce intestinal inflammatory edema, and promote villus repair.
Methods: cimetidine 0.2g orally, 3 times / day, plus 0.4 g before going to bed, and even served 3-5 days.
19. Treatment of herpetic stomatitis
Cimetidine selectively blocks H2 receptors on the surface of inhibitory T lymphocytes, reduces the activity of inhibitory T lymphocytes, promotes the synthesis of interleukin 2 and interferon, restores and enhances immune function, and induces cell resistance. Viral proteins that prevent viral replication. Some people use cimetidine to treat herpetic stomatitis with satisfactory results.
METHODS: Cimetidine 10-20 mg/kg·d was administered orally 2-3 times.
20. Treatment of female hirsutism
Because cimetidine has anti-androgenic effects, hair growth rate can be slowed down, Vigerky reported that 5 women with hirsutism, after treatment with cimetidine, the effect is significant.
Method: 0.3 g orally, 5 times/day, for 3 months.
21. Treatment of chronic colitis
Method: cimetidine 0.2g orally, 3 times / day, plus 0.4g before going to bed.
22. Treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding
Method: cimetidine 0.2g orally, 3 times / day, plus 0.4g before going to bed.
23. Treatment of enuresis
One case of enuresis was cured with cimetidine, female, 15 years old, student. There is a 12-year medical history, the number of nights is variable, and it is ineffective by various methods. In the past week, 1-2 times of enuresis every night, this time due to urticaria, cimetidine 0.2g, vitamin C 0.2g, 3 times / day. No enuresis occurred on the night, and 4d drugs were used. There was no recurrence after 4 years of follow-up.
In the following cases, use caution:
1. Patients with cancerous ulcer disease should be diagnosed before use to avoid delay in treatment;
2. Older patients due to renal dysfunction, the use of this product, can lead to elevated blood levels, dizziness, convulsions and other symptoms;
3. This product has a certain inhibitory effect on bone marrow, and should pay attention to check blood picture during medication;
4. Patients with severe heart and respiratory diseases, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), organic encephalopathy and liver and kidney dysfunction should be used with caution;
5. Children are prone to central nervous system toxicity, so they should be used with caution;
6. Because cimetidine is a hepatic enzyme inhibitor, it can inhibit and slow the intrahepatic metabolism of many drugs. Therefore, cimetidine should be avoided in combination with central anticholinergic drugs to prevent aggravation of central nervous system toxicity; avoiding the combination with chloramphenicol, may induce iron deficiency anemia.
